Last summer, Schoep a German Shepherd and his owner John Unger, made headlines around the world when the picture above was released. Schoep was extremely arthritic and could only find relief when John would take him to float in Lake Superior.
Yesterday John Unger, announced Schoep's death by posting a photograph of a pawprint in the sand on Facebook with the caption: 'I breathe but I can't catch my breath'.

Sad new. But he had just celebrated his 20th birthday a few months ago .. 20 years is a really long life for a Shepherd and we could all see he was deeply loved and taken care of by John. I picture Schoep now romping over the Rainbow Bridge without any pain from Arthritis any more. And may John find comfort in knowing he gave all he could to his best friend while he was here.
